Advanced technology and modern building codes are expanding the opportunities for wood in construction.

Wood products offer advantages in terms of material, construction and environmental costs.

Wood is a renewable and responsible choice that helps reduce our environmental footprint.

CLT Timber  with Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic

Why external fiberglass reinforcement around Cross Laminated Timber ?

Cross laminated timber as a two way plate is an improvement over Glulam as a one way plate.

However brittle failure is still a problem and exposed CLT were durabilty to condition loads such as water ingress remain a challenge

Since 1994 Guardian has been wrapping wood externally with wood and as a result brittle failure becomes ductile failure and stiffness can be increased up to 800 mPa

Therefore for certain applications it makes sense to have a panel encapsulated with FRP Composite, for example some applications

  • Balcony
  • Slab on Grade
  • Parking Garage
  • Roof Slabs
